The rock band Luminous Family Trust needed a coherent look and feel in order to communicate their message and music to grow their audience.
The music was their own mix of afrobeat, reggae, ska, samba and punkrock. We coined the term "Punkified World Music" in order to quickly give people, even folks who were not very well versed in musical genres, a good idea of what was to expect.
Since the band's music and performances were high energy, I decided on a logo that conveyed movement. The logo had a sporty feeling which again communicated movement, energy and felt like a different move for a rock band. An icon of a running man further emphasized the message.
The general visual style needed to be overall noticeable and explosive. It was also highly influenced by other artists in the same genre. The basic idea was bright colors mixed with the ripped and torn visuals of punk rock.
The flyer and poster art took the same visual cues. It had to compete with hundreds of other event images and hopefully wake the interest of new fans. Again, bright and brash, as opposed to delicately designed, was the motto. Some people would think that attention getting images like women in sexually suggestive situations was a cheap way to get people's attention, and they would be right.
